Ask yourself these Questions

After reading about this example of teenage anger, read through some of the online forum 'discussions' about his behaviour.

What is your stand? Do you agree with the general public's condemnation of his actions? Do you agree with his father's actions? Why do you think are the underlying reasons for the teen's behaviour?

Discuss your opinions as a group.

COME TO A CONCLUSION.

I believe that teenage violence is abhorrent and its perpertuators should be severely punished. This HCI boy has to understand and live up to the consequences of his actions, and not apologise through his father. As a young adult in one of Singapore's top schools, this boy needs to learn this lesson in a hard way, both for his own good and as a lesson all teenagers in Singapore.

Teenage violence is barbaric and embarassing to our gracious society. :D :D :d :D :D :D :D :D ;D

We should not pardon it, but after reading the post on the Hwa Chong student's defence, I feel that we should try to understand the teen's feelings and his motives. I do not believe that anyone would bash another up for no rhyme or reason.

However, he should not have resorted to violence in self-defense, even though it was a misunderstanding and the bus driver might have gone a little overboard.

He should have acted more calmly and should be responsible for his own actions. His father should not have represented him to atone for his own wrongdoings. He should have been more independent and mature.

!Exalt :D :D :D

I think that the boy's behaviour is unacceptable and he should be punished for his wrong actions.

I agree with the general public's condemnation of his actions.

However i do not agree with his father's actions. He should have said "take my son away, i'm ashamed of him...take him away...!" He should not have knelt down and begged for forgiveness for his son because his son should have asked for forgiveness himself, instead of his father.

i think that he was probably oblivious to reality and blinded by love to protect (show-off to) his girlfriend. He was also not in his right state of mind. But then again he probably did not have one either.

I believe that teenage violence is an uncivilised and immature act. As teenagers, we are young adults and not children anymore. As a student in one of the TOP LOCAL JCs, he should be more tolerant even if the bus driver is unreasonable. He should exercise self-control and talk things out. Man of principles DO NOT FIGHT BUT TALK PEACE.

I strongly feel that teenage violence is getting out of hand, and he should be punished accordingly.

The boy had little respect for the bus driver. He should learn to be less impulsive and think about the consequences before acting rashly.

However, the HCI boy was not totally at fault, too. The bus driver was not being considerate towards the situation. He did not listen to explanation from them.

Thus, the boy and the bus driver are both at fault. Teenagers should not resort to violence no matter how ugly the situation is.
Adults should also be more understanding towards teenagers and be more patient towards the younger generation.

We feel that teenage violence is utterly unacceptable, especially from a student from a top JC. The act is animalistic, uncivilised, barbaric. He is simply disgracing himself and the reputation of the school in public. He acts like a hooligan.I feel that he should think before he act. Even though the bus driver did not tell him the reason for taking the card, he should clarify the reason with the driver politely first, not assaulting, therefore i feel that he did not think when he acted and that should not come from someone from the top JCs.Furthermore, the bus driver had a right to retain the card since it had been reported lost thus the boy should have understood the standard procedure of retaining the card and not assualt to bus driver for not returning the card. Also as a boy from one of the top few Jcs,he should have been more street-savvy and understand what will happen if u use a card that is reported lost. Thus i feel that the boy is 100Percent at fault and fully responsible.

Now that everyone has switched their stand - and now blame the HCI student - let me ask you another question.

Is THE BOY to blame, or has it to do with his UPBRINGING (an over protective father perhaps?), and a school system that protects its name by protecting him?

Teenage violence is a disgrace to the school, soceity, their parents and themselves. Regarding the article, i think the Hwa Chong JC student had been too rash and did not think of the consequences before acting. Even after beating the bus driver, he should have been responsible for his own actions and not let his father kneel down and beg the bus driver for forgiveness. Also, the school should not condone the actions of the student and instead take disciplinary action against him. The Hwa Chong JC student should learn from his serious mistake and be more mindful of his actions especially in public, so as to not let his father down once again.

the action of the JC boy not only reflects on the lack of proper upbrining received from the parents, but also on the moral education provided for him. we should condemn his actions and rash behaviour, as it reflects negatively on the parents and society. as the saying goes, 'the sins of the sons, is the sins of the father.'
I feel that both parties - the bus driver & the student were both at fault, thus causing a big misunderstanding, leading the matter to blow up. I feel if the bus driver and the student would be able to communicate properly in the first place, the boy would have understood the rights that the bus driver had in confiscating the card. This can be seen as , 'After Mr Singh explained why the bus captain had to retain the card, the boy calmed down.' Hence, showing that the bus driver did not give and fully explain to why the card was confiscated. If the bus driver wanted to take up appropriate actions, he should have done it when the student snatched back the card, not when the student was to alight from the bus as this may cause the boy to be more defensive and to reliate.
However, i feel that the boy was too rash as he should not hit the bus driver without clariying the matters. Thus i feel that the boy should be punished , should not be heavily dealt wiht as he is still young with a bright future ahead. Why is the govenment wiling to give ex-convicts a second chance campaign, while on the hand, a second chance can be given before his reputation is tarnished.
to be continued if have time...

The hornies think that teenage violence is disgusting, morally wrong, unholy, unrighteous, barbaric, stupid, horrible, incorrigible and dumb.
We feel that the HCI boy was too reckless. He was entirely at fault and should be shot, chopped, and cooked in curry(which no one will eat). He should be responsible for his actions and not let his father apologise on his behalf. Furthermore, his behavior was a utter disgrace to his school. we, the hornies of class 3L also feel that the school should not condone this behavior and "provide him with guidance to overcome this difficult period" and instead punish him. The school is just trying to protect its reputation.
